Malachite Healing Properties

Malachite is a green copper carbonate mineral. It forms in fibrous or stalagmatic masses deep underground. It is a relatively soft mineral, only ranking 3.5 - 4.0 on the Mohs scale.
The name Malachite comes from the greek molochites lithos which means ‘mallow-green stone’, a reference to its resemblance of mallow plant leaves.
It is a mineral that has been prized for many thousands of years with evidence of it being mined in Britain at the Great Orme Mines at least 3800 years ago. It has been used throughout history for many purposes including art and decoration. High ranking ancient Egyptians used Malachite to make a form of make up that they would paint around their eyes to distinguish themselves.
Malachite’s Beautiful Energy
Apart from being an incredibly beautiful stone with its different shades and swirls of green and its stunning silky lustre, Malachite also has some powerful healing properties. It is an incredibly protective stone, clearing away unwanted energy frequencies or stuck energy in your auric field, and keeping them away.
It connects you with your intuition, allowing you to discern if things are well or not as they should be. It helps you to embrace the changes and lives cycles that we all experience, enabling you to move through these transitions with inner strength and courage. It will encourage you to step outside of your comfort zone and move forward in life, wherever it may take you.
Malachite really steps into its own though when it comes to emotional healing. It works with, and opens, your heart chakra allowing you to feel and experience love of all kinds more fully. It works to remove any energetic blocks in our heart centre so that energy can flow and we can open ourselves to the beautiful abundance of love and life. It’s a beautiful stone to work with for heart ache and grief, holding your heart in a gentle loving embrace, allowing you to feel and process your pain in order to heal. That is why it is a key stone in my Heart Healing crystal wellbeing set.
As well as opening your heart chakra, it also works with your third eye chakra and solar plexus chakra. It works to strengthen the solar plexus chakra, our centre of personal power, strength and vitality, as well as clearing our third eye chakra, allowing our intuition to flow more easily.
Caring For your Malachite.
There are many opinions out there as to which stones can and cannot be cleansed with water. I have heard some people say that any crystal ending in ‘-ite' should not be placed in water, and other say all crystals can be cleansed in water. There are exceptions to all these systems. Any mineral that is porous will take on water if placed in it. Some, such as Selenite, will actually change its physical structure if it comes in contact with water, returning to a base form of Gypsum. As a general rule any porous stone or any stone placed at 5.0 or below on the Mohs scale should not be cleansed with water. If you are at all unsure, skip the water and use a different method.
I personally use a Selenite charging plate for my Malachite. I find that it clears and cleanses very quickly and thoroughly with this method. Malachite also seems to like being placed outside on the grass or near plants to clear and charge. Other methods you could use are passing your Malachite through incense smoke or sage smoke, or using visualisation to cleanse and charge it.
Ways to Work With Malachite
Wear malachite or carry a malachite stone with you for protection, heart healing, and for opening your heart, solar plexus and third eye.
Place some Malachite in your home near to the main entrance to help prevent negative energy from entering, or place in an area where you feel the energy is stagnant or stuck to get the energy flowing again.
Place Malachite near your workspace to bring in a new flow of creative energy, or in your meditation space to bring insight and inner wisdom.
Final Thoughts On Malachite
Malachite is a wonderful crystal ally to work with. The late, great Judy Hall said that Malachite may evolve to be one of the most important stones of our time. Its abilities to clear, protect, and open us to healing, abundance and harmony, is second to none. It encourages us to take responsibility for our thoughts and actions and supports us while be make our transformations in life.
